National Safety Council Emphasizes Safety When Riding in School Buses

Family owned and operated, John Leckie, Inc., has six decades of experience serving the student transportation needs of Northern New Jersey clients and passengers. Strongly committed to safety, John Leckie, Inc., maintains a team of highly-trained drivers, dispatchers, and mechanics.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), buses play a vital role in transporting 25 million students to and from school each day and take the place of 17 million cars that would otherwise be on the road. Statistically, taking a bus remains a safer alternative than walking or riding in the family car to school.

One aspect of the bus riding experience promoted by the NSC is offering passenger lap and shoulder belts as a way of making this travel even safer. In addition, children should be encouraged to remain alert and in their seats at all times, with horseplay kept to a minimum. Students are advised not to hang arms or heads out of windows and to avoid loud noises that could distract the driver. With book bags kept clear from the aisles, passengers should refrain from getting up from their seats until the moving vehicle has come to a full stop.
